He talks about the satisfaction he gets from fully embodying a character, especially when a character’s psychology is incredibly rich or nuanced.Īfter that, we discuss Feo’s background in improv and sketch comedy. Feo explains that after watching Hoffman perform, he became fascinated with diving deep into the emotional life of a character.

Hoffman’s acting had made a huge impression on Feo, so in this episode, I ask Feo to outline in more detail what exactly was so compelling about that performance. In the previous episode, Feo had mentioned that in high school, he had seen Dustin Hoffman’s performance as Willy Loman in the movie, Death of a Salesman. In the final part of our discussion, I ask Feo what inspired him to become a performer in the first place. Feo never shied away from putting in all the behind-the-scenes work that was necessary to help him become a working actor both in voice over and on-camera. If you want to get paid to voice act, you need to master your art, research your industry, and then market your professionally competitive skills to producers who are looking to hire top notch acting talent for their projects. No one in the industry suddenly discovers you and then paves a path to success for you. This is the unglamorous homework that it takes to book regular work as an actor. This included regularly marketing his skills to producers and casting directors who were hiring actors. Instead, Feo diligently studied to improve his acting skills and then consistently took the actions necessary to find acting opportunities. There was no single moment when he “broke into show business”.

Essentially, Linda believes that she would insult Willy by exposing his plot to commit suicide.īiff states that he has stolen himself out of every job since high school and that during the three-month period when he was completely out of touch with his family he was, in fact, in prison for stealing a suit.Welcome to episode 179 of the Voice Acting Mastery podcast with yours truly, Crispin Freeman!Īs always, you can listen to the podcast using the player above, or download the mp3 using the link at the bottom of this blog post. Also, if Willy removes it himself, Linda will know that Willy has stopped contemplating suicide.īesides, why did Biff remove the rubber tubing? One may also ask, what would be the probable use for that piece of rubber hose that Linda found? The probably use for the piece of rubber hose Linda found was for Willy to commit suicide by inhaling gas. Linda finds it hidden behind the fuse box in the cellar, and the "new little nipple" she finds on the gas pipe of the water heater leads her to the conclusion that Willy had planned to inhale gas. The rubber hose is a symbol of Willy's impending suicide. Literally, the rubber pipe is the implement the main character Willy Loman keeps hidden in his basement for his suicide attempts.Īlso question is, what does the rubber hose mean in Death of a Salesman? The rubber pipe is a dark and morbid symbol in Arthur Miller's play Death of a Salesman.
